MODULE 1

Master The Fundamentals of Movement and Breathing

In the first week, you will be added to the EVOLVE Slack Group, where you will introduce yourself and meet your peers. We will discuss the importance of respiration as it relates to movement and cover the following topics:

  • Develop an understanding of dynamic systems theory and movement
  • Identify overarching principles and neurological influence of movement and breathing
  • Discuss how structure influences muscle activity

You’ll finish this week with a 1-hour small group Tutorial Zoom Call with Alex Effer. During this tutorial, he will go over all of the questions you may have around the fundamentals of movement and breathing.

MODULE 2

Build An Inside-Out Perspective Of The Thorax and Pelvis

The second week of the EVOLVE mentorship is all about how the shapes of the thorax and pelvis influence movement. This week you will be given the opportunity to be place in a 3-4 person learning group to maximize your learning experience (participation is optional). We will also cover the following topics:

  • Identify the important anatomical features of the thorax and pelvis
  • How different reaching activities can influence mobility at the shoulder
  • How respiration and gait can influence movement
  • Pelvic floor anatomy
  • What thoracic rotation really is from an inside-out perspective

You’ll finish this week with a 1 hour small group Tutorial Zoom Call with Alex Effer. During this tutorial, he will go over all of the questions you may have around the Thorax and Pelvis.

MODULE 3

Uncover The Power Of Gait and Foot Mechanics In Your Assessment

During the third week of EVOLVE, we will do a deep dive into the foot, gait and knee mechanics. This week is when everyone is encouraged to post postural pictures and gait for the group to assess. We will also cover the following key concepts: 

  • Discuss the two shapes of the foot during gait
  • Identifying how we can use specific aspects of the foot to understand what's going on at the pelvis
  • Determine how we can use gait to categorize exercises
  • How to assess the foot and knee position to create specific exercises to improve mobility

You’ll finish this week with a 1 hour small group Tutorial Zoom Call with Alex Effer. During this tutorial, he will go over all of the questions you may have around the foot and gait.

MODULE 4

Build An Assessment Model That Accelerates Client Results

During the fourth week of EVOLVE, we will break down some of the biggest misconceptions commonly seen in the traditional assessment practices. More importantly, we will be deep diving into the assessment model. We will also introduce the following key concepts:

  • Discuss the Resilient Hierarchy of Assessment
  • Utilize the 8 measurements to create a complete framework of movement limitations
  • Learn exactly what information the assessment tests are providing and how we can select exercises based on these measurements
  • Identify limitations during the assessment and why they are occurring 

You’ll finish this week with a 1 hour small group Tutorial Zoom Call with Alex Effer. During this tutorial, he will go over all of the questions you may have around assessment.

MODULE 5

Master The Assessment Model To Strategically Select Exercises

During the fifth week, we will dive deeper into the assessment model that further allows us to identify postural and movement limitations. This week we will be covering the following key concepts:

  • Discussing the two types of hip and shoulder internal rotation and how they are important for exercise selection
  • How hip/shoulder extension, internal/external rotation and abduction/adduction can tell us a lot about the position of the ribcage and pelvis
  • Integrating the assessment model from Week 4 and adding additional measurements to get a full postural and movement perspective to more strategically select exercises
MODULE 6

Gait Assessment and Practical Application

During the sixth week, we will explore what gait can tell you about movement and the compensations that you may see:

  • Discuss the phases of gait through analysis 
  • Determine how we can use a gait to identify limitations in movement
  • Learn important characteristics to consider for gait and movement 
  • Use case studies to reinforce the concepts discussed

You’ll finish this week with a 1 hour small group Tutorial Zoom Call with Alex Effer. During this tutorial, he will go over all of the questions you may have around gait and assessment.

MODULE 7

Develop An Exercise Selection Process To Make Programming Easy

During week seven, we will take a deep dive into the exercise selection process
and cover the following key concepts:

  • Develop an understanding of what specific exercises are actually doing
  • Categorizing exercises based on the assessment to make exercise selection seamless 
  • Learn how to manipulate tempo, speed, force, gravity, load etc, to improve fitness and mobility qualities
  • Efficient organization of a session to recapture movement and enhance fitness qualities

MODULE 8

Advanced Programming Strategies

During week eight, we will identify how to use constraints and other tools to maximize results
and cover the following key concepts:

  • Identify how to select the most effective exercise at the appropriate time.
  • Develop advanced exercise selection tools to navigate complex movement limitations.
  • Discuss unique exercises based on principles to improve mobility 
  • How to modify weight room exercises based on movement limitations
  • Discuss the 3 primary Resilient principles that have the biggest impact on exercise selection

You’ll finish this week with a 1 hour small group Tutorial Zoom Call with Alex Effer. During this tutorial, he will go over all of the questions you may have around programming strategies.

MODULE 9

Application of Model to Case Studies

During the final week of EVOLVE, this is where we bring all of the material together. We will select one volunteer to asses LIVE on the Tutorial call. During this assessment, we will put into practice all of the concepts and tools learn during the mentorship. We will also cover the following key concepts:

  • Use the assessment and exercise selection process on case studies
  • Introduction to exercise selection based on case studies and assessment measurements
  • Gain insight into how to apply these concepts into a live session

You’ll finish this week with a 2 hour small group Tutorial Zoom Call with Alex Effer. During this tutorial, he will asses an EVOLVE student LIVE and go over all of the questions you may have.

I'm Alex Effer

I am an Exercise Physiologist and the founder of Resilient Training and Rehabilitation Inc. I primarily train/rehab and consult high profile business executives, celebrities, amateur and professional athletes.

During the pandemic, I began Resilient Education to share my unique philosophy on movement, rehabilitation, strength and conditioning and posture. I have found that it's hard to know where to start with the abundant of information out there. More importantly, how to digest it into a framework that can actually be applied.
