Unlock Mobility and Range of Motion with These 3 Game-Changing Exercises
Oct 31, 2024Even the tightest, most muscle-bound body builders can relieve tension and improve range of motion with the right mobility exercises.
In fact, that's exactly what happened when I showed IFBB Pro bodybuilder, Gregory Dawson, three game-changing exercises to instantly improve his range of motion.
Bodybuilders and weightlifters generate tremendous amounts of tension with their muscles from years of producing force from resistance training.
This, in combination with lifestyle factors and constantly fighting against gravity, can lead to compensations within the body. These compensations can restrict range of motion, tighten up tissues, and have a significant effect on posture.
Posture provides a snapshot of the nervous system, and can give us a reference of where to target with our mobility exercises.
In Gregory's case, his posture told me his body was rotated to the left, compressing muscles of the back side of this upper body, specifically his posterior lower rib cage and lower back. His shoulder blades were also retracted and he had a significant arch in his lower back.
All of these compensations limited his late range shoulder flexion for things like overhead pressing, as well as his ability to flex his hips for movements like deep squats.
To improve this, I walked Gregory through three mobility exercises to open up range of motion. By placing the body in strategic positions and using the breath to create space and relax the nervous system, we can instantly unlock lost ranges of motion.
The results were outstanding, especially how quickly they improved his total body mobility.
And you too can use these exercises to achieve the same benefits.
